I was asked via email to send an email to my Team BOINC@AUSTRALIA as this feature does not work on Einstein and was fixed here and ready for a test.  I sent an email and was advised by a message on the screen that 666 emails were sent.   There are however more than 700 members so I am guessing that some did not have the flag set??

 

It has been a day since I sent the email and I have not received a copy even though I ticked the box to receive one.  I also set up a thread on our forum for members to post if they got the email and no one has posted so I don't think it worked..

Thanks for testing out the feature. You are correct, I don't think the mass email worked. I am looking into why and seeing if we can fix the problem. I will get back to you about it soon. Thanks for your patience in this!

PS - The 'send email to team' works with a small team: just three people, but since your team has hundreds it is a 'better stress test' of the system.

Update: Re: only 666 members being sent an email. There are 700+ members but not all of them have up-to-date email addresses. I see in the logs a number of email addresses for domains that do not exist, one example: shiftreload.com.au.  Also, users may select in their privacy preferences whether they can be notified by team or site admins, and they may choose not to receive email notifications.

Would you mind trying to send

Would you mind trying to send another team email message? I have changed a setting in our email system that may have been the culprit, but I'll need you to try and send another message.

Please let me know right away once you have sent the message by posting in this forum thread. Then I can check the mail logs and see what happened.

PS- I have also 'joined' BOINC Australia using a test account at A@H, so I should receive your group email message too, if/when you send it.

One more question: Can you confirm whether a team member with a 'hotmail.com' address received the mass emailing?

I see messages in our mail logs that Microsoft/hotmail/outlook may not have processed the mass email (maybe they did, maillog messages can be hard to parse). Any additional confirmation you can give me that people are indeed getting your mass email message would be great.

My email address is from Hotmail and I got the email.   I have had confirmation from members with gmail and yahoo and some Australian provider accounts that they received the email.

Actually, we have one more request: After discussion among ourselves, we want to test once more on Albert@Home in order to test a change in our email server. This change may help inform other emails servers, the recipients, that we are not a SPAM-er. Could you send one more email test to the BOINC Australia team?

If this is a fix will it end up being a fix for all projects as it is a problem with the base code and all projects have this problem?
