Hi guys i'm having major problems trying to join my team.

I've tried every link combination & suggestions on the boards but still no success..

1. Yes i'm logged-in

2 Yes I have credit

When I search for teams or just click on a any random team I never get the "join team" link.

So am I missing something or is team joining broken ATM?

*LOL* Could someone please put the exact steps needed to achieve this lofty goal?

Also which is the correct attach URL? I first attached to https://albertathome.org(as instructed when you click the big "join" button) I then got the boinc message stateing i'd attached to the wrong URL & to re-attach using "http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/" which I did.

So i'm now wondering which URL is correct? And could this be the problem?

Thanks Dr Who Fan,  it

Thanks Dr Who Fan,

it seems there is still problems here,  I end up attaching 5 PC's using https://albertathome.org/.  After attaching each PC every time there was an update i'd recieve a message that  "i'd attached to the wrong URL & to re-attach using "http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/ when convieient".  From then on that message would repeat over & over on each PC. Eventually I relented an thats what I did.  It's my guess this only affects new people & in the end probably doesn't matter which one you use, except for fact that if you use https://albertathome.org/ you will will recieve the above warning in the message log, but for me I the message anoyed me enough to to change to the recomended URL. Which should have been the end of the story but...

I just recently looked in the boinc directory and to my shock there's now 2 account files & 2 project folders. One called "account_albertathome.org.xml" with it's data folder not suprisingly named "albertathome.org"& the another file called "account_albert.phys.uwm.edu.xml" with it's data folder "albert.phys.uwm.edu".  How this will playout in the futrue I don't know. Also another thing I noticed was in both account files the master URL is  "<master_url>http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/</master_url>" so it seems it probably is the correct one?

Any advise on what, if anything to do about this would be appreciated.

As for not being able to join my team, well in the end no matter what I did, no matter what URL I used,  no matter how many times I logged in & out the blessed "Join This Team" link would never appear on my chosen teams page.(or any other teams page)

Just in case I was missing something I posted on my teams message board and I helpful teammate who was already a member here tried to detach then re-attached from Albert & then re-join our team, which he did  without any problems. After that he told me exactly how he did it & where to look for the "Join This Team" link but still nothing as I had tried that way many times before,  so still joy.  Maybe it's just a problem for new members? I really don't know.

Eventually I read a post about some guy that had a similar problem & what he did was to join through his account manager, I don't use an account manager but after many hours of trying many different things to join my team I was willing to try almost anything and so that's exactly what did,  I ued BAM to join the team and.. It worked!!!

Perhaps this was a one off glitch that I was err lucky enough to get but usually thing don't work that way, do they?

Cheers..

Hi Jugnut, The project issue

Hi Jugnut,

The project issue you bring up there is indeed an interesting one! We'll definitely have to look into that. There are exactly the thing we do test here though, so don't be surprised if stuff breaks Cool

Thanks,
Oliver

Regarding the team issue:

Regarding the team issue: don't get me wrong but is it possible that you already were a member of your team? I'm asking because you won't see the join option as long as you are already a member of a team. IOW, you have to leave your current team in order to you a different one.

I just checked it and it works as expected...

Hey Oliver thanks for your

Hey Oliver thanks for your time, yea i'm positive I was not a member. I never once did I see the "join this team" link so I could not join. If somehow I had managed to join then each time I went to my teams page I should have seen the "leave this team" link which I didn't see either.

Over the years i've attached to over 30+ projects & on at least 5 or more PC's & always joined the same team, while this doesn't make me an expert in any way shape or form it at least shows I have basic familiarity with how the process is supposed to work.  Also as I mentioned just in case I missed something I had a teammate go through the process & tell me what I was supposed to see & do. Which I had already tried many times before unsuccessfully.

Beyond that I have no clue as to the cause of the problem. But at least in the end I found a way. What a newcomer would have done in my place is anyone's guess?

Also about the attach URL as mentioned in previous post using the suggested https://albertathome.org/ gave me a message log response saying i'd attached to the wrong URL.  After doing as suggested & re-attaching to the suggested http://albert.phys.uwm.edu I now have two account files with two data folders. Is there a suggestion for fixing this or should I just leave it & hope for the best?

Cheers

Hm, we'll need to look into this but we've been "kinda busy" last week as might have guessed Wink

Anyhow, you can't do anything wrong here since this is our test project anyway.

Stay tuned...

Ok, I removed the A@H and

Ok, I removed the A@H and re-attached (7.4.36, OSX) and it worked without a hitch or any kind of warning:

Mon Feb 15 14:42:39 2016 | Albert@Home | Detaching from project
Mon Feb 15 14:48:49 2016 |             | Fetching configuration file from https://albertathome.org/get_project_config.php
Mon Feb 15 14:49:08 2016 | Albert@Home | Master file download succeeded
Mon Feb 15 14:49:13 2016 | Albert@Home | Sending scheduler request: Project initialization.
Mon Feb 15 14:49:13 2016 | Albert@Home | Requesting new tasks for CPU and AMD/ATI GPU
Mon Feb 15 14:49:15 2016 | Albert@Home | Scheduler request completed: got 6 new tasks

The files in the BOINC data directory will still be named after albert.phys.uwm.edu since that's still the project's master URL. We see the same for 7.6.22 on OSX and Linux. I also forced an update, again without a warning:

Mon Feb 15 15:57:40 2016 | Albert@Home | update requested by user
Mon Feb 15 15:57:45 2016 | Albert@Home | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
Mon Feb 15 15:57:45 2016 | Albert@Home | Requesting new tasks for AMD/ATI GPU
Mon Feb 15 15:57:48 2016 | Albert@Home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Mon Feb 15 15:57:48 2016 | Albert@Home | Not sending work - last request too recent: 44 sec
Mon Feb 15 15:58:48 2016 | Albert@Home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
Mon Feb 15 15:58:48 2016 | Albert@Home | Requesting new tasks for AMD/ATI GPU
Mon Feb 15 15:58:50 2016 | Albert@Home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Mon Feb 15 15:58:50 2016 | Albert@Home | No work sent

However, the message you got sounds familiar so we're going to do some code digging...

Which client version do you use?

Also, can you please compare the content of the master_url tag in the following files:

  • account_albert.phys.uwm.edu.xml
  • account_albertathome.org.xml (should it exist)
  • client_state.xml (the A@H project entry only)
  • sched_reply_albert.phys.uwm.edu.xml
  • sched_reply_albertathome.org.xml (should it exist)

Does it say albertathome.org in any of those files' master_url tag?

Thanks,
Oliver

Hi Oliver thanks again for

Hi Oliver thanks again for your time.  In all files you made mentioned of the master URL was <master_url>http://albert.phys.uwm.edu/</master_url>

Eventually I shut down boinc & deleted the file account_albertathome.org.xml & it's associated data folder and after restart & update received no errors. So for now it seems my problems are over. What caused the problem in the first place? Darned if I know?

Well i'm not sure what i'm

Well i'm not sure what i'm doing right or wrong but I just attached another PC(a laptop) and received the same error message during the attach process. I use boinc tasks to attach but it's hard to see how it could be the problem. Besides this message comes from the server.
