Gpu tasks never start: status 'Scheduler wait' Windows 7 64 bit

This means that there is not enough memory free on the GPU to run the task.

Yeah, this new 6.13/7.x

Yeah, this new 6.13/7.x version of BOINC is persnickety when it comes to GPU memory. It is not about how much any more, is tis all about how much is "available" at BOINC start.

Hello Have the same Problem

Hello

Have the same Problem but here the Bonc-client seems to false recognize the max available memory for OpenCL.

since other programs detect it as

device 4 OpenCL name: BeaverCreek
device 4 OpenCL type: GPU
device 4 OpenCL units: 4
device 4 OpenCL max allocable memory: 512MBytes

Where to post this to get it fixed?

Apart of this I think it wold be good to raise the Memory bar for opencl since the most part of graphics card with 512MB do not provide enough free vram to start the WU, to avoid useless Bandwidth usage as long as the WU needs 500MB ram to start.

Normally on the BOINC forums, or the BOINC Alpha email list (requires registration). However today v7.0.3 was released for testing. Run with that one first, to see if it has already been fixed.

@Ageless Thanks. Tried it

@Ageless

Thanks. Tried it and run that 7.0.3 Version doesn't fix it.

Seems that the Opencl param isn't read right, as far as I understand it.
CL_DEVICE_GLOBAL_MEM_SIZE of the ATI GPU 0 is 512MB and should be read, when I look at GPU Caps Viewer advanced OpenCl Info screen. That should give the right size.

So I should forward it to the mailing list since the Forum states its the wrong place to post the bug? According to your comment there or do I mix something there?

Report any problems you get with it to the Alpha email list. This list needs registration.

Reporting bugs on this forum or any project's forum isn't very productive as the developers simply do not have time to scour through all forums looking for posts with your bug reports in them. While it may happen that we - other volunteers - forward your problem to them, history has shown it is quite difficult being the middle man in this when more information is needed from you. Hence why it's better for all concerned that you report the problem directly to the developers, who will come back directly to you when they need more information or better logs or to tell you that they've checked in a fix for the specific problem.

I already let the developers

Message 78933 in response to message 78932

I already let the developers know that you had it with 7.0.2, I'll tell them it's with 7.0.3 as well.

Is that an onboard GPU, one on the motherboard or in the CPU?
Is extra RAM from your normal RAM added to its memory count?

The developers have reacted

Message 78934 in response to message 78933

The developers have reacted already. It seems that the culprit is a hack they put in place that would report the correct amount of memory through the 'broken AMD drivers', 11.7 -> 11.10. It appears that 11.11 and 11.12 have a fix that report the OpenCL memory correctly. The temporary hack that the developers put in, however, now adds up your memory.

They'll remove the hack. To be continued in 7.0.4; Oh and thanks for reporting that! :-)

Thank you, I am waiting for

Message 78935 in response to message 78934

Thank you, I am waiting for that Version.

FYI
16.12.2011 22:21:21 | | Processor: 4 AuthenticAMD AMD A6-3410MX APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics [Family 18 Model 1 Stepping 0]

APU stats in CPU DIE integratet GPU, when there is just ATI GPU 0 listet below.
For this the GPU gets its RAM from the Memory so that it gets reported, smaller than the amount installed, but should add up to the installed amount with the amount of RAM dedicated to the GPU part.

Quote:
16.12.2011 22:21:21 | | Memory: 7.47 GB physical, 7.47 GB virtual

+ 512MB (GPU) = ~8GB Memory total, the amount installed.

If you watch at Iurii Zaikins first post in this thread the Memory displayed seems to be odd for me the physical smaller than virtual, never seen something like this on my systems. For my systems it is always the same.

The virtual memory value is set by Windows, if you don't set up the page file yourself. Normally this is 2x the RAM, so here it's correct. Mine is Memory: 7.99 GB physical, 15.98 GB virtual, so normal there.

Remember that 64bit has a theoretical ability to address up to 16 exabytes, whereas 32bit can only address up to 4096MB, or 4GB. So 32bit Windows won't go any higher, not even on the page file.

Your values, "Memory: 7.47 GB physical, 7.47 GB virtual", being the same is all to do with who set up the page file. You, the person who set up your computer, or Windows. It shouldn't be a big problem for the running of Windows, or BOINC.

Same issue with Mac OS 10.7

Same issue with Mac OS 10.7 and an ATI 5770, Boinc 7.03.
